CTE-SSENTIAL INFORMATION: When you vote on May 6 in consideration of the CTE millage renewal request, keep in mind that more than 40 percent of Beaverton juniors and seniors attend CTE right now. That's in addition to the 500-plus students who have gained valuable skilled trades training since voters originally approved the millage in 2016. Also remember: It's a RENEWAL - a chance to keep things going strong at no additional cost to taxpayers. Please vote May 6, and if you believe in the great things CTE is doing for our students, our employers and our community, please speak up and spread the word. #CTEitsWorking #PleaseVoteMay6

Beaverton Schools Update: All PM CTE programs have been cancelled for the Beaverton Jr./Sr. High School.

BJSHS Announcements: April 1, 2025

CTE-SSENTIAL INFORMATION: On May 6, voters will be asked to consider renewing the Career & Technical Education millage they originally approved in 2016. Because it's a renewal, passing the request won't increase your taxes - not one bit. That's just one of the crucial facts you need to know before you vote. Here's another: Since that millage was passed, 509 Beaverton students have been taught essential career training in the program. Visit https://tinyurl.com/mu575k5m for CTE facts, figures, FAQs and student success stories. Read Beaverton Superintendent Michael Hugan's letter to the community at https://tinyurl.com/755jb8t9. And please vote May 6. #CTEitsWorking #GoBeavers

10th Grade Biology Students at Beaverton High School have learned the art of sauerkraut making (and patience) during their unit on cellular energy. We learned a lot about bacteria and other fermented foods that are good to eat and good for you too! After several weeks of waiting, they were able to taste the fruits of their labor and enjoy a sausage and sauerkraut treat! Many students tried it for the first time and really liked it! Now, they all know how easy it is to make at home! Way to put biology to work, students!

INFORMED + ENGAGED: Beaverton Schools continues its I+E Community Forum this week with a focus on student academic data. (But don't worry - as usual, we'll talk about other topics as well, and leave plenty of time for Q & A.) One interesting observation we've made in the first two forums is that people are learning new things they didn't know about the district; that tells us this series is a great idea and that it's working. All interested parties are welcome and we will have childcare available so parents may focus on the meeting. Join us Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the BJSHS Media Center, and please let us know you're attending by scanning the code or visiting https://bit.ly/4hlgQ7G. You can also use the form to offer topics, concerns or questions. #SuccessStartsByShowingUp

HUMBLE PI: We can't get too far past March 14 without observing a moment of respect for the junior high teachers who allowed students to smush (and in some cases, smash) tins of whipped topping in their faces on Friday, all in the name of Pi Day. The photos tell the story, and one thing's for sure: 3.14 was never nearly this much fun when we were kids. #PiDay #GoBeavers

Spring has sprung and busy days are ahead! It's a great day in the weight room when every bench is filled! Boys and girls grades 6-12 are welcome to workout, lift and get healthy after school M-Th #gobeavers

SAVE THE DATES: With April comes state-mandated testing at BJSHS. Please do everything possible to make sure students attend school for these important events: SAT (11th Grade) is Wednesday, April 9; ACT WorkKeys (11th Grade) is Thursday, April 10; PSAT (8th Grade) is Monday, April 14; PSAT (9th Grade) is Tuesday, April 15; and PSAT (10th Grade) is Wednesday, April 16. See the tip sheet below to help ensure your students are bright-eyed and ready to do their best, and #GoBeavers.

THE NAME'S DRIBBLER...COREY THE DRIBBLER: Students got an early look at tonight's BES Reading Month Halftime Show extravaganza with an assembly today from Corey the Dribbler, a man who achieved his dream of joining the Harlem Globetrotters thanks to hard work and...a book. You and your family owe it to yourselves to stop by tonight's event from 5 to 7 p.m. We've got a ton of FREE fun, and it's open to all of humanity. Be there! #GoBeavers

A BOUNCE OF PREVENTION: By Wednesday, we'll be halfway through Reading Month at BES, and we're probably gonna need to catch our breath. So to recharge for the second half, we're hosting the Reading Month Halftime Show. The jewel in the crown will be former Harlem Globetrotter Corey the Dribbler, a baller with an important message. But we'll also have the BES Art Show with student exhibits; Make-and-Take Origami; a Glow Show Reading; and Basketball Skills Stations with Corey and Mr. Fritz. Plus: Snacks! And Drinks! It's going to be a great night of free fun and it's OPEN TO ANYBODY AND EVERYBODY. Join us Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. #ReadingMonth #HalftimeShow

Manufacturing Matters in Beaverton! Today our 9th grade science students were visited by Ryan R. and Ryan T. from St. Gobain. Students have been learning about how the operations in a cell are a lot like the operations within a factory. Our guests from St. Gobain talked about the raw materials that go into the specialized products that are made right here in our backyard! Students were challenged to compare some of the jobs that people in our community hold to jobs in a cell. We even asked students to use blueprints to assemble some products, just like cells assemble proteins. We appreciate community members such as these fine gentlemen for taking the time to talk about the industry in our town and about the jobs that support many school families! Thank you for connecting our classroom to our community!

LOOK AT THAT PIE FLY! A packed gym, seven particularly ambitious students and one VERY enthusiastic teacher celebrated the end of the BES Kids Heart Challenge the only way that really makes sense - by slamming pies in the face of Principal Shawna Hartwell. In all, BES raised $3,870 in life-saving donations. Some kids took it easy on Hartwell, gently placing the tin of whipped topping in her face as humanely as possible. One or two wound up like a pitcher and really made the pie splatter. But only fifth-grade teacher Jennifer Harris approached it like a pro wrestler diving off the top rope. Congrats to the top fundraisers (Lincoln Shlese, Georgie Carland, Emma Knake, Noah Hansen, Grayson Revis, Gibson Longstreth and Nora Coppola), all the students who took part, and a good-sport principal who always goes well beyond the job description. (And thanks to the BJSHS poms squad for warming up the crowd with a Little Miss Pep reprise.) #GoBeavers
