In January we began giving brag tags to the students who had perfect attendance for the month. Each months tag looks different than the month before. We are hoping by doing this we will increase our attendance rates at the school.
With this we have also been highlighting our class that had the most students with perfect attendance. For January, Mrs. Longstreth's 1st grade class had the most. In February it was Mrs. Smith's 2nd grade class. Congratulations to all of the students!
Below are some facts about attendance and why it is so important for your child to be at school:
"Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade or be held back."
"By 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school."
"Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence."
"When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating."
"Attendance improves when schools engage students and parents in positive ways ..."
Brag tags are a positive way to engage students and get them in school. Just like you we want to do everything we can for your child. Parents and schools is one of the most important partnerships. TOGETHER we CAN do this!
