ON THE HUNDREDTH DAY OF SCHOOL, MY HERO GAVE TO ME: Yep, it was Day #100 at BES today, and the kids were pumped to hit triple digits. Arts and crafts, snacks, headgear and t-shirts were the order of the day, but an appearance by Zero the Hero closed the deal. Zero also happened to be celebrating his birthday, so he handed out beads to mark both occasions. #ZeroKeepsItPositive #GoBeavers

Now that the snow and colder weather has arrived we would like to remind our families to bundle kids up before sending them to school. All of our students go outside for recess at least once each day providing that the temperature is above zero degrees (with windchill). We do have extra cold weather gear for when kids do forget, however, what we have is limited. Thank you for your help in keeping our students warm!

The Beaverton Elementary Basketball Players are invited to the basketball triple header vs. Farwell this Friday, January 27th. Elementary basketball players that wear their game jersey to the game will get in for free! The JV boys play at 4:30, varsity girls at 6:00 and varsity boys at 7:30 for our Coaches vs. Cancer Game. We hope to see you there. GO RED!

A WORTHY CAUSE: An important heads-up for those attending Friday's home basketball triple-header vs. Farwell. Our National Honor Society students are doing their Coaches vs. Cancer fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The Coaches vs. Cancer committee has been talking to area businesses to raise donations; these businesses will be recognized during the basketball games this Friday. Committee members will also be available at the games to solicit donations from fans. The JV boys tip off at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity girls and varsity boys. SLOW DOWN AND BE SAFE As students and families settle in for the new semester, officials at Beaverton Schools are cautioning drivers to slow down and pay heed to campus traffic directives. “Traffic during arrival and dismissal can be hectic,” said Superintendent Joe Passalacqua. “You’ve got cars and buses and pedestrians all moving about. You’ve got some less-experienced drivers in that mix. We need everyone - students and adults - to take their time, follow our traffic directions and be patient and courteous.” The district is distributing a map that illustrates the proper traffic flow for student drop-off and pick-up, bus routes and appropriate driving areas for visitors. Passalacqua also cautioned drivers to follow the directions or risk running afoul of the two Beaverton Police Dept. employees who serve as School Resource Officers on campus. “We preach safety on our campus, and we just want drivers and pedestrians to exercise every possible caution, especially in these darker winter months when visibility isn’t as good,” Passalacqua said. “Let’s work together and take care of each other.” To keep up with all things Beaverton Schools, make sure you download the Beaverton Schools app by searching for “Beaverton Beavers” at the iPhone App Store or the Google Play store, and drop by www.beavertonschools.net regularly.

Parents and guardians of Beaverton students are invited to support the Beaverton Schools Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). We are a volunteer organization made up of parents, teachers, administrators, and support staff who are all dedicated to the successful education of our children. The PTO works hard to help make the school year both enjoyable and exciting for the students, teachers and parents. This organization was founded with the following goals: To develop a partnership among parents, school, and community. To encourage communication and involvement among the parents, teachers, administrators, and students. To provide resources and support for teacher and student activities. ...AND TO ALL A GOOD BREAK: Beaverton Elementary closed out the year in style this morning, playing host to the BJSHS Band and Choir for a big ol' holiday singalong. Along the way, a handful of students were recognized for bringing the cheer, the crowd was treated to the teaching staff's unique interpretation of 'The 12 Days of Christmas' and, oh yeah, The Big Fella showed up. CAVALCADE OF CHRISTMAS CUTE: It happens every year: Our Kindergarten and Specials teachers get our little ones dressed up and trained in the art of holiday spirit, they put on a big show and melt our hearts. And they did it again this afternoon. Great job, class of 2035. #Beavers
