DID YOU KNOW??? “Across the socioeconomic spectrum, kids arrive back at school every fall much worse off in mathematics than they finished in the spring. On average, students lose approximately 2.6 months of learning in math over the summer.” -from an article called Summer Math Loss published on the Harvard Graduate School of Education website Just a few extra minutes this summer can make a HUGE difference. Attention parents of incoming K-6 Beaverton Elementary students:
There will be a rewards assembly in the fall for students who show us some proof of reading over the summer. Students can fill out the reading bookmark that was sent home, report books read in the KRN portal, or simply keep track of books or time read on a piece of paper. The important thing is to keep those reading skills sharp! Reading during summer break makes a HUGE difference for students in the fall. It's not too late!

Just a friendly reminder - Summer time is a great time to make appointments for sports physicals and immunizations. The State of Michigan does have several school required immunizations. If you have a child in Kindergarten, 7th grade, or are new to our district your student's immunization status will be assessed and will need to be updated prior to the beginning of the school year. Additionally, all potential athletes will need to have a current health physical on file with the school. Enjoy your summer!!

Many of our students are participating in the Kids Read Now summer reading program. Every @KidsReadNow book includes a Discovery Sheet on the inside of the front cover. These questions help children to relate the book to themselves, to other books, and to the world! Are you discussing these questions with your child? What are your favorite questions (and answers) so far?

Remember that on average students can lose as much as 2 months of reading and 2.6 months of math learning over the summer. Even a few minutes or a few days of fun learning can help!
