Summer Math Challenge Kicks Off on June 21st!
Register at: hub.lexile.com/smc
Elementary Parents - The Summer Math Challenge lasts for six weeks. The challenge focuses on only one math concept per week, so your child will remain sharp but not feel overburdened during the summer. From June 21st through July 30th (six-weeks) parents and/or students will receive daily emails with fun activities and links to educational resources. Prizes for participation will be given out next Fall!

As part of a writing assignment in Mrs. Kaplan's class, students were to complete a poem that encompassed nature and water (to go along with what they were studying). One 6th grade student chose to write a poem about a personal experience of hers. This specific poem captures the emotions that were felt within the community on the day the flooding began: one year ago today. Compliments to Sayde Woodruff, author of "Once Upon A Sad Shore".

We are thankful for our school DARE program led by Deputy Johnson of the Gladwin County Police Department. This has been a great way to educate our students on how to make safe and healthy decisions that impact their lives. As a wrap-up to the program, all students participate in an essay competition that describes the most impactful topic that was taught to them throughout the course of the program. This year, while there were many great essays to choose from, the essays wrote by Ben Reader and Izzy Dodman stood out among the group! Thank you again to the teachers, Deputy Johnson, and the students for another successful year with the DARE program.

The Summer Lunch Bunch program is being offered to students enrolled in Beaverton and Gladwin schools. Bundles will be delivered to the homes and include items such as lunch & a snack, fun activities, a Bible story, and chances to win prizes. If interested, please view the attached forms. Contact information is provided on the bottom of the Summer Lunch Bunch flyer.

Here's a little snip-it of what our 5th grade classes have been working on in their STEM class. With the assistance of Mrs. Wohlschlegel the students in Mrs. Rise's class created an animation project that we would like to share with you!

Autism Awareness 2021! One of our 2nd grade classes were fortunate to have Mrs. Oard visit them at the outdoor classroom today to share information about Autism as part of Autism Awareness Month. She read a great story to the students and gave each of them a goody bag with special little treats! As the class said, "This was awesome!". Thank you Mrs. Oard and Mrs. Kielpinski for setting this up.

We have received additional information regarding the Pandemic-EBT Program. Please view the attached image for the detailed information explaining how the program works. Earth Day 2021 was a day of celebrating nature for Beaverton Elementary. Many of our students were involved in mini lessons stressing the importance of caring for our Earth and our Community. Mrs. Augustine has been with our district as a para educator and substitute teacher for many years. It is with excitement that we offer her a "Congratulations" for her next step. We will miss her smile and ability to connect with our students. We wish her the best of luck and hope for success as she moves into this new venture. Thank you Tressa for all that you have provided our students and staff!

Just a friendly reminder: students must wear masks on the busses and in school. We are noticing a high number of students that are forgetting their masks. We have extras at school to use for when students misplace, ruin, drop, etc. However, we do ask that they bring one with them daily for entering the bus or entering the school. Thank you very much for your cooperation!

We sure miss our volunteers and family activities right now! But this dad didn't skip a beat in joining in on the March Reading Month theme day today!

2nd grade is celebrating March is Reading Month with guest readers! Thank you volunteers!

Meet this weeks Highlight Teacher for Beaverton Elementary: Will Gaudard! Mr. Gaudard has been teaching for 7 years now; beginning in the desert area of Farmington, New Mexico with a class of third graders. As a position opened up in Beaverton Schools, Mr. Gaudard jumped at the opportunity to work in the Mid-Michigan area. This has allowed for him to be close to family and home; a place he feels he belongs. Will was inspired to become a teacher due to his 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Weslowski, who was a positive influence and role model for him growing up. As a teacher, his favorite subject to teach is reading and he hopes to continue inspiring students every chance he has. When asking a few of his students what they like most about Mr. Gaudard, Taryn and Andrew stated that they love his ability to tease with them and be funny - he makes learning enjoyable. They also noted that when they have questions in class he can explain the answers really well in a way that they can easily understand. Will’s ability to make meaningful connections with his students and deepen their abilities to learn has made him an outstanding addition to our staff here at Beaverton Elementary!

It was very exciting to have two of our own Gladwin County former students return to complete parts of their collegiate coursework. Dayna Fennell and Kylie Keeley are currently finishing their Dental Hygiene programs through Kellogg Community College. To complete one of their final projects they needed to provide community education and our kindergarten students loved every minute of it!

Meet our Highlight Staff of the Week: Mrs. Bruner, 3rd Grade Teacher at Beaverton Elementary! Mrs. Bruner was inspired to become a teacher by her parents and her third grade teacher, Mr. Johnson. Through her 18 years of teaching she has experienced taking lead roles in public school, charter schools, and after school programs.
Both, her parents and Mr. Johnson, continually provided her extra help in the area of reading. As a result, a love of reading developed and she now carries that passion into her classroom continuing Read-Alouds daily with her students. Her favorite book series as a young learner was The Boxcar Children. Her students often refer to Mrs. Bruner as "a nice and caring teacher that makes learning fun - especially when she talks in her British accent when introducing lessons!" Beaverton Elementary is fortunate to have Mrs. Bruner in our classrooms inspiring our students to dive into their books and strengthen their path to lifelong literacy.
