Today Beaverton competed at the Freeland team tournament where they went 2-3 on the day. Beaverton started the day with a strong win over Charlton Heston Academy by a score of 71- 0 and then followed a tough loss to Freeland 37-48. The Beavers lost two more matches one to St Louis with a score of 24-50 and another to Bay City Western with a score of 24 -50. The Beavers ended the evening with a solid win over Sanford Meridian with a score of 51- 22. Going 5-0 on the day: Justin Wood at 175 lbs Garrett Muma at 132 lbs. The guys wrestled well. It was a great way to start the Christmas break. #GoBeavers

...AND TO ALL A GOOD BREAK: Beaverton Elementary closed out the year in style this morning, playing host to the BJSHS Band and Choir for a big ol' holiday singalong. Along the way, a handful of students were recognized for bringing the cheer, the crowd was treated to the teaching staff's unique interpretation of 'The 12 Days of Christmas' and, oh yeah, The Big Fella showed up. GOOF ON A ROOF: A mysterious elf bearing a strong resemblance to a BES administrator whose name rhymes with Pawna Martwell was spotted on the roof as kids arrived this morning. Talk about commitment! Meanwhile, her colleagues enjoyed a staff holiday breakfast in the considerably warmer cafeteria while a couple of older boys clearly stepped over the line between naughty and nice. #ChistmasBeavertonStyle #GoBeavers

CAVALCADE OF CHRISTMAS CUTE: It happens every year: Our Kindergarten and Specials teachers get our little ones dressed up and trained in the art of holiday spirit, they put on a big show and melt our hearts. And they did it again this afternoon. Great job, class of 2035. #Beavers

VISIT TO THE FUTURE: Sophomores paid a visit to Clare-Gladwin CTE classrooms and labs this morning in advance of registration for classes next fall opening this afternoon. (More information is available in the student's Google classroom.) Whether they found themselves driving nails, caring for an artificial infant or plenty of other interactions, it gave students a solid glimpse into the possibilities of the hands-on life of a CTE student. #CTEitsWorking #GoBeavers

Due to icy road conditions, Beaverton schools will be on a 2 hour delay for Thursday December 15th, 2022.

...AND THE CHILLER TOLD HIS TALE: Beaverton fifth-grader Nevaeh Walters entered a drawing to bring popular children's author Johnathan Rand to BES for a visit, and she won. Well, technically, everybody won. On Monday, Rand - who writes the ubiquitous "American Chillers" and "Michigan Chillers" series - came to town to present a lively show to students about his writing, his secret origin and his inspirations. He credited teachers for putting him on his successful career path. Thanks to Nevaeh and Mr. Rand for a great show. (And not for nothing, Mr. Rand, but we're still waiting for "Bedlam in Beaverton.") #GoBeavers

SMART COOKIES: Students in the BJSHS chapter of the Business Professionals of America are running a bake sale Friday during the Beaverton/Meridian basketball triple-header. Donations will be gratefully accepted to help offset BPA competition expenses. It's a great opportunity to simultaneously support Beaverton academics and athletics and gnosh on some tasty desserts. #BPA #GoBeavers

SKATERS GONNA SKATE: Beaverton Elementary first-grader Memphis Adams is someone to watch in the years to come. Actually, she’s someone to watch right now. Last month, she competed in the annual Skate Midland event alongside 150 other athletes from around the state and beyond and crushed her division, placing first in Overall Program with Music and second in Fundamental Elements. This is a huge accomplishment that followed 18 months of dedicated training, lessons and flat-out work. Memphis’ mother, Caitlin, reports that Memphis is now working through various stages to compete at a higher level after the New Year. Congratulations, Memphis; we can’t wait to see what happens next. #HardWorkPaysOff #GoBeavers

The Beaverton Wrestling team started their season with two big wins tonight. The Beavers defeated Byron 54-10 and then capped the night off with a thrilling 43-42 win over Corunna! #GoBeavers

SHOOTING STARS: Beaverton Jr./Sr. High School is proud to announce its Students of the Month for November. BJSHS administration and staff congratulate these students who were selected by teachers for excellence in the classroom, leadership among their peers and an enthusiastic ambition that inspires others. Students were honored at a ceremony this morning with a certificate, snacks and drinks, with their families in attendance. BJSHS Students of the Month included (l to r) Ioana Irimia, Carter Kile, Reese Roggentine, Alex Greer, Sawyer Gordert, Grace Simpson, Glorie Drudge, Eric Sherman, and Cheyenne Coppes. AT THE MOVIES: There was no sign of Siskel or Ebert, but Beaverton's Gem Theater did host a group of VIPs Monday for an exclusive sensory-friendly showing of 'Strange World.' Our Links students and their Peers were treated to popcorn, drinks and a theater all to themselves, and they had a blast. Thanks to the Gem for the accommodations and a special afternoon for a great group of kids. (And if you haven't heard about Links, catch up here: https://bit.ly/3B8BnK4. LIGHT 'EM UP: The annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Ross Lake Park is a local holiday staple, as is the Beaverton Schools flavor that accompanies it. At tonight's event, the Beaverton Band performed songs of the season and Ms. Beaverton Kaylin Noll flipped the switch, kicking off the season in style. #GoBeavers

IT'S TIME TO FACE FACTS - DECEMBER IS HERE: So we can groan about short days and sub-zero temperatures, or we can follow the example set by BES first-graders and...BUILD GINGERBREAD HOUSES! Family members stopped by Friday to pitch in on construction, and it turned out to be more fun than ought to be possible with gum drops and graham crackers. EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT HYDROPHOBIC POLYMERS BUT WERE TOO AFRAID TO ASK: Our Chemistry students got hands-on Wednesday at CMU's museum exhibit "A Century of Science & Service." Students got to explore sodium polyacrylate and its super absorbent properties and learned about hydrophobic and hydrophilic polymers and their applications. The museum gave the students a crossword puzzle to guide them in exploring the exhibit, which is sponsored and co-developed by the Midland branch of the American Chemical Society to commemorate its centennial. As a fitting send-off, the museum gave all the students an egg of Silly Putty.
