STATE OF THE ART: You absolutely must carve out some time to stop by the BAC on Saturday for the Gladwin County Artist Guild's annual Student Art Show. Our BJSHS students have been working hard and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., you'll not only be able to view their work, but to purchase it as well. Prices start at $5 and all proceeds go directly to the student artist; these pieces will also be eligible for viewer's choice awards. So please plan to stop by, support local student artists, buy some work, vote on your favorite and find out just how much talent we've got roaming these hallowed halls. #ForArtsSake #GoBeavers

A STUDY IN EXCELLENCE: Some of BJSHS's best and brightest were honored today at a luncheon recognizing the Jack Pine Conference All-Academic Team. JPC students are chosen based on GPA and SAT/ACT scores, and athletic participation for these honorees is not a factor. Back row, l to r: Andrew Cooper, Taylor McCormack, Emma Govitz and Colton Compton; Middle row: Assistant Principal Jennifer Johnson, Becca Claypool, Leah Lash and Grace Simpson; Front row: Ariana Humphries and Kaylin Noll. #Proud #GoBeavers

RESCHEDULED: At its meeting Monday night, the Beaverton Schools Board of Education approved canceling its regularly scheduled meeting for May 8, 2023 and scheduling a special meeting to be held Monday, May 15, 2023 at 6 p.m. at the BJSHS Media Center.

Good afternoon Beaverton, We hope that you enjoyed the weekend. Here is the link for this week's Beaverton Schools' Superintendent Report.

PENS AND PINS: Senior Becca Claypool signed on the dotted line this morning, marking her official commitment to taking her considerable academic and bowling skills to Mid Michigan College following graduation. The all-stater and #4 student in her graduating class was lauded by family, friends and coaches at the ceremony held at BJSHS. Congratulations, Becca; your Beaverton Schools family is proud. #RedSuccess #GoBeavers

WHOLLY MOSES: If you like living at least partially in the past, you're going to get along swimmingly with BJSHS History Teacher Charles Moses. Get to know him in the latest edition of...Who's Next! #GoTeachers #GoBeavers

CALENDAR CHANGES: With snow days finally behind us (we hope), our schedule for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year is now set. Please be advised that Friday, May 5, is now scheduled as a full day for students. This allows us to finish the school year on June 6, which will be a half-day for students. You can view the full adjusted calendar at https://5il.co/1sco8.

ONE LAST LOOK: If you missed last night's baseball games versus Gladwin at Dow Diamond, head over to https://bit.ly/3UtUQgs and enjoy some photos of a great night at the ol' ballgame. Players and fans alike had a grand time. #GoBeavers

PLEASE BE AWARE: Per our friends from Beaverton Township, starting Wednesday, April 12th, the southbound lane of M-18 in front of the Beaverton Schools Central Office will be shut down for the installation of a sidewalk that will run from there south to Crockett Road, then west to BJSHS. The middle lane will used as the temporary southbound lane until construction is complete. Drivers should expect congestion at peak times; it may be advisable to consider alternative routes.

THE BIG LEAGUES: Don't forget about tomorrow's baseball showdown against Gladwin at Dow Diamond in Midland. The JVs kick things off at 4 p.m., with the varsity contest to follow. Tickets will be available at the gate for $10. C'mon out and support our teams in the big park. #GoBeavers

NOTED LAGOMORPH CAUSES STIR: When it comes to celebrity greeters, it's tough to top the Easter Bunny. BES students were met on their way into the school this morning by the long-eared hopper, exchanging hellos, high fives and hugs. (SO! MANY! HUGS!) E.B. then passed through the halls for a bit before hitting the road for what is sure to be a busy weekend. #RabbitNation #GoBeavers

ON COMMON GROUND: Sometimes, people disagree. When you take more than a thousand students, teachers, administrators and staff and put them in the same place for nine months, familiarity will, at times, make for misunderstandings, disagreements and a need for conflict resolution. We’ve developed a set of protocols to help address these concerns while respecting the needs and proper channels of resolution for all involved. Full details at https://bit.ly/3KA77g1.

HOLD YOUR HORSES: Excited about Spring Break? So are we. But students need to remember that it doesn't start until AFTER our half-day on Friday. If you start before then, you need to understand the impact it could have on everybody. At the top of the list: The state requires a set number of school days for our kids, and if a certain percentage of you don't show up, we're in real jeopardy of Friday's session not counting. That means we would have to make it up at the end of the year. Families, please make sure your student attends school tomorrow. #90PercentOfSuccessIsShowingUp #GoBeavers

TESTING DAYS AREN'T FAR OFF: Please be advised of upcoming testing days for students in grades 8-11 on April 12 and 13.

CELLING POINT: Visitors to freshman Science classes Wednesday were treated to the Cell Factory Tour. Tourists were whisked away into a plant cell to learn how each job in the cell is like a job in a factory. Other BJSHS staff and students were invited to take in each of the ten tour stops, where students in the classes shared their knowledge about the different types of cells, the organelles found in a cell and how they all work together to make a product (proteins), much like a factory. #SmallScience #GoBeavers

SAFER EVERY DAY: It’s not always pleasant to ponder, but hoping for the best while preparing for the worst is the only way a responsible school district can operate. Today, Beaverton Schools took another important step toward attaining MI HEARTSafe School certification. A group of teachers and administrators have volunteered to comprise their respective school’s Medical Emergency Response Teams, and today’s drills called for a rapid response to a cardiac event. School MERT teams, along with School Resource Officers and Beaverton Fire Department and EMS personnel, walked through the proper protocols of recognizing a cardiac event, notifying 9-1-1, securing the school building and administering life-saving care until paramedics arrive. Groups in both schools scored well in their scenarios, and it’s a point of pride that not only the MERT squad but almost 40 percent of Beaverton school teachers and administrators are CPR and AED certified. We’ll postgame today’s exercises, make any necessary adjustments and work to get even better. #Striving #GoBeavers
