STILL PLAYING: Our all-conference/all-district/all-region/all-stater Grace Simpson, who graduated in May, is still finding ways to put in work on the softball field. She'll represent our school and our town in next week's Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association All-Star Game. The game is July 19 at 10 a.m. at Davenport University in Caledonia. (More details at mhssca.com.) Congrats to Grace and good luck in the game. #BeavertonAlways

ESSENTIAL: At Beaverton Schools, not all the heroes necessarily do their work in the classrooms. Three crucial administrative office staffers whose efforts aren't necessarily seen by all do immense work behind the scenes to make sure things run smoothly everywhere on campus, and they continue to work to improve as evidenced by the recent certifications and accreditations they've earned. Hats off to Payroll/Benefits Coordinator Marybeth Lyons (MSBO School Payroll Specialist certification); Office Manager/Administrative Assistant/Accounts Payable Karen Carpenter (MSBO Facilities Director certification); and Business Manager Heath Kaplan (MSBO Business Manager Academy completion). Great job to all, and thanks for all you do for our kids. #Proud #GoBeavers

Good afternoon, Beaverton family. This message contains two essential pieces of information, so please make sure to read and/or listen all the way to the end. Our community suffered a tragic loss of life early this morning, and the impact of that event will ripple throughout our Beaverton family for some time to come. For now, we ask everyone to respect the privacy of those closest to the victims of this act and to keep them in your thoughts in the days and months ahead. The incident occurred off-campus and threatened the safety of people in the surrounding area. Beaverton Schools concurred with the Beaverton City Police regarding the threat and canceled classes for the day, urging students and staff to exercise caution. As you know, today was supposed to be the last day of classes for the 22-23 school year. Now, having been given the all-clear from local law enforcement authorities, Beaverton Schools is in the unenviable position of needing to extend the school year by one more day in order to comply with state mandates for student attendance. Our failure to do so will come at a significant financial cost to the district. So I’m appealing to you - our Beaverton family - and imploring you to do everything you can to make sure your student attends school for the scheduled half-day tomorrow, Wednesday, June 7. There are plenty of reasons to come to school - to finish exams and projects, to turn in school-owned equipment like Chromebooks, and frankly, to avoid a costly financial loss for our district imposed by the state. But this is also important: We need to finish the school year the right way. The Beaverton way, with friends and teachers and a proper goodbye. Please do what you can to help us do that. Thank you, and we hope to see all our students at school tomorrow.
